A fireplace fender is generally a short screen placed in front of fireplaces to keep ashes and flying sparks from escaping the fireplace box which could cause damage outside the hearth stone area. They are typically decorative and can add elegance to the overall look of the fireplace.

This is an Mid 19th Century Fire Guard featuring Brass & Wire Fender with decorative curlicue designs in the face of the screen. Measures approximately: 35 ½:” Long x 17 ½” deep x 20 ¼” tall.

We acquired it from a home that Hanley of the Eagles used to own in Aspen, Colorado. It was sold to a billionaire, which is were we purchased them from. We are not sure to the actual origin of where he may have acquired them from, but its a cool history none-the-less!
